Project target of the audience
Local public authorities, households and individual citizens, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
Results:
To develop and pilot a local circularity hub model as a practical solution to foster circular economy in households, public services, and communities, thereby contributing to the development of climate-neutral cities.
Expected results:
- Throughout implementation, the project will develop and test practical solutions that enable a shift to sustainable lifestyles and circular consumption patterns in cities and neighbourhoods:
- A circular household model with guidelines for how everyday behaviour can become more environmentally friendly.
- A circular service model enabling businesses and NGOs to provide sharing, repair, and reuse services.
- Establishment and testing of local circularity hubs in eight partner cities, including Valmiera, serving as community spaces for creative cooperation and behavioural change.
- A consolidated outcome: “Urban Circularity Triangle: Town–Home–Services” – showing how collaboration between municipalities, households, and services supports climate neutrality.
- Development of educational materials and a repository of best practices to ensure solutions can be transferred to other cities in the Baltic Sea region.
- Rollout of the “Circularity Champions of the Baltic Sea Region” communication campaign, highlighting inspiring examples and promoting circular thinking.
- Delivery of policy recommendations for local and regional decision-makers to support long-term change.
Main activities of the project
The Circ@Home project focuses on promoting circular economy in urban areas, with particular attention to households, public services, and municipalities. Activities are implemented in three phases:
Solution Development
- Three interlinked models are developed:
- A circular household model that helps residents assess and improve their consumption patterns.
- A circular services model that encourages businesses to offer sharing, repairing, and reuse services.
- A local circularity hub model that provides municipalities with guidelines for establishing neighbourhood hubs for circularity.
Piloting
- Project partners in eight cities, including Valmiera and Riga, will test the solutions under real-life conditions:
- Pilots in households focusing on food and non-food consumption in collaboration with local service providers.
- Establishment and testing of local circularity hubs to foster collaboration among residents, businesses, and municipalities.
Transfer and Dissemination
- Development of educational materials, compilation of best practices, and policy recommendations.
- Implementation of the international campaign “Circularity Champions of the Baltic Sea Region” to inspire change across the region.
